Roland Garros Winners Recap

Hey Y'all. Galileo here.

I just watched Bahrami and Cash lose to Woodforde and Gomez in the over 45 doubles after Pioline/Santoro beat Costa and Moya for the under 45 legends doubles title. After exchanging two 6-4 sets, the Spaniards retired, leaving the French pair with the title. Cash and Woodforde will be playing together in a couple of weeks at Wimbledon. It was a great match and it's amazing how good these guys are still, especially Gomez.

In the Mens Doubles, the Bryans clinched victory over Llodra/Mahut 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. The French pairing took out a few big seeds, including the second and fifth seeds, both of whom are proven clay court pairings. Lohut even gave the French crowd something to cheer and be vocal about. In the ATP rankings, the Bryans have an 8000 point lead over Lopez and Granollers. Llodra went up 20 places and Mahut went up 38 places in the doubles rankings.

Garin and Jarry, the Chilean fifth seeds, lost in the boys doubles final to Brit Edmund and Portugese Ferrira Silva in straight sets. Garin, however, beat thirteenth seed Norrie of GBR, third seed Djere of Serbia, eighth seed Coric of Croatia and then Zverev, the fourth seed from Germany, to win the boys title. He is the real deal and I think he will be a big player in years to come as evidenced by how well he has been doing at the senior clay events.

Cermak and Hradecka won the final set breaker 10-6 to defeat Mladenovic/Nestor, the fifth seeds, in the final. Mladenovic, I think, made the Women's Doubles quarters, too, so it has been a good tournament for her.

In the singles final, Nadal dispatched Ferrer, but has dropped to world number five. In a match where Ferrer played quite well, Nadal was ridiculously efficient. He was fantastic on a whole other level. I was watching Ferrer play his absolute best tennis and he was still being spanked by Nadal. What will be interesting though is the fact that Nadal will be likely seeded fifth at Wimbledon. I know they alter the seedings because of the short grass season, but it looks as if Nadal will be seeded fifth. I actually think Nadal will finish the year ranked within the top two because he has no points to defend. Currently, I think the year end will be- Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Murray and Ferrer. If Murray gets injured again or the injury gets worse then he has a lot of points to defend and he may drop off a little bit.

In a few days time I shall be reviewing the French Open, but for now I will be doing some of next weeks picks.

*HALLE, GERMANY*
=SF=
Federer [1] d. [3] Haas
Gasquet [2] d. [6] Kohlschreiber
=FINAL=
Federer [1] d. [2] Gasquet

...Look for the seeds to be strong here and for five-time titlist Federer to triumph for the sixth time here. I don't think Haas can repeat, but then again it is a home crowd for the German. I think the one-handed backhand will be triumphant here. Also, look for Gasquet to rebound from a heart-breaking loss here or capitulate entirely.

*LONDON, ENGLAND*
=SF=
Murray [1] d. [4] Tsonga
Del Potro [3] d. [2] Berdych
=FINAL=
Murray [1] d. [3] Del Potro

...I think Andy has recoverd and I think he is going to win the Queens title.
