Wimbledon Days 9 & 10

Hey Y'all. Galileo here.

In the past few days, we have had thrills and spills a plenty. Ferver going up two sets to none over Murray and Delpo thrashing Ferrer despite falling over. Djokovic and Janowicz cruised.

The top seeds are crashing out in the boys singles. In the semis, unseeded Marterer takes on unseeded Chung with the winner playing Edmund or Quizi, seeded fifth and sixth, respectively.

Blake/Melzer lost in four sets to Dodig/Melo, the twelfth seeds, in the last remaining men's doubles quarterfinal. Despite winning a set to love, the twelfth seeds lost the third set breaker to love before closing it out 6-4 in the fourth. The Bryans were pushed to five by Bopanna and Vasselin, but won it 6-3 in the fifth despite having many match points saved by the fourteenth seeds. Stepanek/Paes lost in five sets which had a lot of breaks. So the Bryans will play Dodig/Melo. I say the Americans win in four and happy fourth to all the Americans out there too.

Righteo, time for some awards...

STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM MATCH: de Potro d. Ferrer
...Despite hurting himself, it took the Tower from Tandil just 2 hours and fifteen minutes to dismiss Ferrer 6-2, 6-4, 7-6. He hit 12 aces and 42 winners with just 11 errors. He got 72 percent of first serves in and then won 87 per cent of those points. Expect breakers against Djokovic with Delpo playing so well. I think I'm going to do a very in depth final preview tomorrow. I think Delpo has a big shot at winning another slam here. If he is fit, he should be able to go far but clearly he wasn't too injured. Scarily enough, he won 40 per cent of receiving points, too, which will worry Djokovic if he sees the stats.

ELVIS AWARD: Andy Murray, GBR
...Verdasco was up two sets to love and, like against Nadal in the famous match 4 years ago, he was the better player. He hit better shots, played more aggressive tennis and was stronger overall. The most annoying thing about watching it on BBC TV is that the commentators were completely unashamedly biased toward Murray to an almost laughable point. When the crowd were interrupting the Spaniard's service game and trying to disrupt his rhythm the umpire put a stop to it. The commentators reaction-just let them do it, they're not doing any harm. When Murray sat down at the changeover swearing, quite badly, they defended him and said that was fine, too. Of course, if anyone not British had been playing, it would have been a heinous crime. It isn't just the complete bias that irritates me, it's the double standards, too. You don't play a five-setter without playing some good tennis somewhere, but if it had been radio I would have thought that Murray's opponent were only on court for five minutes here and there. And at the end, they cheered, yes actually cheered. Never mind the fact they want a Scot to win at the All England Club, I just wanted unbiased commentators. OK, rant over but still grrrr.

HOME GROWN HEREO: Kyle Edmund, GBR
...What with third seed Zverev retiring to Kozlov and Milojevic, the second seed losing, Edmund's draw opened up. He took advantage and now he play Quinzi for a place in the final against a complete surprise. In his 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kozlov, he hit five aces and 24 winners. He also won 97 points compared to 76 for his opponent in the 109 minute contest. If he won the boy's title I suspect we'd never hear the end of it from the BBC, but it would still be a huge victory and winning slams in the junior can indicate a fruitful senior career.
=============================

Right, time to risk some predictions. Lisicki in straight sets is my first. I think Janowicz can win but he won't. I'll go Murray and Djokovic in four tight sets, but any of the four could get to that final.
