2006 U.S. Open Picks

Andre Agassi might be leaving, but Roger Federer is only just beginning.

He's already collected eight grand slam singles titles, and finds himself more than half way to Pete Sampras' record of fourteen. A win in New York and he'll be pretty well assured of reaching double digits in 2007. In 2008, he could pass Sampras and become "the greatest" long before Tiger Woods manages to pass Jack Nicklaus's major title record on the PGA tour.

Even Rafael Nadal doesn't seem to be attuned enough to the hard courts this summer to pose a mighty threat this time around. Of course, that seemed to be the case at Wimbledon, too.

So, is Federer winning another U.S. Open a fait accompli? Yeah, just maybe it is.

**Round of 16**
#1 Federer d. #16 Ferrero

#23 Tursunov d. #28 Calleri (James Blake, who should be here, has just been playing like crap lately)

#18 Ginepri d. Safin (of course, Safin could go out in the 1st Round, too)
#17 Murray d. #7 Davydenko
#9 Roddick d. #8 Baghdatis (welcome to Mojo City)
#3 Ljubicic d. #20 Djokovic
Wawrinka d. #11 Ferrer (someone has to be the surprise guest)
