US Open Update: The Last Weekend

I am going to go through the other match that have happened over the past few days and then I am going to do a review of the men's semifinals and final match on Tuesday.

So, in the Quad Doubles, Taylor and Wagner beat Lapthorne and Sithole 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. In the quad singles, Lapthorne was beaten by Wagner 6-3, 6-1 whilst Taylor lost to Sithole 6-2, 6-2. Lapthorne beat Taylor on the next day 6-4, 6-4. Top seed Wagner lost to South African Sithole 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Sithole came from behind again to beat the second seed Lapthorne 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. Wagner double bageled Taylor in 31 minutes.

In the WC doubles, Houdet/Kunieda lost to Jeremiasz and Scheffers 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. Second seeded Reid and Vink lost to to Fernandez and Gerard 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Jeremiasz of France and Scheffers of the Netherlands won in the final 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. In the singles, Great Britain's Reid beat Belgium's Gerard in three sets, Kunieda thrashed Argentine Fernandez 6-1, 6-2. Jeremiasz dispatched Vink 6-2, 6-4. In a tight match, Kunieda put out Jeremiasz 7-5, 7-5 whilst the second seed Houdet of France won 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Reid.

Moving on from WC action, the McEnroes beat Pioline and Wilander 6-4, 6-4 in the Men's champions doubles on Day Eleven. They also thrashed Chang and Martin 6-4, 6-0 on Day Thirteen. They are the dominant pair in the Champions doubles at the moment.

In the Boy's Doubles, Halys and Silva beat Marterer the German and Midler the Austrian 6-2, 6-4 to move through to the final. Redlicki and Majchrzak of America and Poland won 7-6 [3], 6-4 against German Haerteis/Wagner. And the American-Polish pair would win through against Halys and Silva 6-3, 6-4 the next day. In the Boy's Singles, third seed beat sixth seed as Garin beat Frenchman Tatlot 6-4, 7-6 [7]. Zverev sent American Altamirano packing in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Coric put Halys to the sword 6-3, 6-1. Aussie Kokkinakis also won, beating second seeded Italian Quinzi 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Aussie put out the third seeded Chilean Garin the next day. He came back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Coric also scored an upset. The Croatian fourth seed beat the top seed 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

In mixed doubles, Spears and Gonzalez lost out to Hlavackova/Mirnyi. The Belarusian and his partner needed an hour and 26 minutes to see off the Americas team 7-6 [5], 6-3. The East European team ended up with pretty good stats of 0-1 and 28-9 overall. Their opponents had similar stats of 2-2 and 30-12. The seventh seeds won 75 points , eleven more than their opposition. There were five breaks of serve in the match, with three going to Hlavackova's team. She won her first mixed doubles title, in her first mixed dboules grand slam final, with that victory whilst Mirnyi won his fourth title from seven finals, or five titles from eight finals if you count the Olympics. He won the 1998 Wimbledon and US Open with Serena W., lost the 1999 mixed Aussie final with her and was runner-up at the 2000 US with Kournikova. He and Azarenka lost out in the final of the 2007 Aussie to Nestor/Likhovtseva but they did win the US Open of that year, defeating Paes/Shaughnessy in the process. He also won the Olympic Gold with Vika, as they defeated Robson and Murray.
